About: Meet Kia, a local owner surrender. This sweet girl is 4 years old and 28 lbs. She just arrived at her foster home and here’s what her foster mom had to say about her.

Kia is the quintessential Beagle! She spent her first hour with us sniffing every inch of the apartment and her nose certainly led her to try to reach up on the counter--luckily, she's short and she listens when you say 'no'. She is snuggly and affectionate and must have a blanket to burrow under! She is very curious and will follow you around if you're up doing things, but as soon as you're ready to sit on the couch, she is happy to curl up and take a nice long snooze. She is unbothered by noise once she is asleep; she does not bark at the door or at noises outside. She also sleeps through the night at the foot of the bed. Kia has very good manners and looks to you for direction. When she jumped on the bed she looked for feedback to make sure it was okay and she waited to be invited up on the couch.

She is a little skittish, but as soon as she understands what is happening, she becomes a confident girl. She should always be on leash because she gets skittish outside and tries to run. She doesn't seem fearful at all; she just startles easily. She prefers people and dogs who approach her calmly. She will follow you to the door when you leave, but she does not try to get out.

Kia eats well and shows no signs of resource guarding with her food. She takes treats gently and sits patiently when asked. She is friendly and sweet to new people. Kia met a flock of turkeys and did not show any interest in them, but perhaps they were too big for her to be too interested! She is interested in other dogs out on walks, but she doesn't pull or bark to get to them. We haven't greeted any yet.

Kia has always had another dog with her and is displaying some separation anxiety in her foster home. She will need another dog in her adoptive home for comfort and security.
